Franck Lagarde

Franck Lagarde is a researcher at IFREMER and a member of the MARBEC joint research unit in Sète. A specialist in marine ecology and biology, his research focuses on the ecological study of bivalve biological resources within Mediterranean lagoon ecosystems, as well as at the national scale through his coordination of the national monitoring network for the Pacific oyster, ECOSCOPA.
His work notably covers oyster growth, reproduction, and survival, along with bivalve population dynamics, phytoplankton, and the impacts of global change on the Thau Lagoon and oyster-farming ecosystems in the Atlantic and in the English Channel-North Sea region. He has contributed to several research programs addressing shellfish farming crises, the restoration of European clams and flat oyster populations, as well as the adaptation of aquaculture to environmental change.
His research combines field observations, experimental approaches, and ecological modelling. He is also involved in university teaching and in sharing scientific knowledge with coastal professionals and the wider public. Through his interdisciplinary work, he contributes to the sustainable management of Mediterranean and national coastal shellfish ecosystems.
