Réjean TREMBLAY

Réjean Tremblay is a professor at The Institut des sciences de la mer (Rimouski) since 2003 and director of the strategic group Ressources Aquatiques Québec, funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec.

He completed a PhD in marine biology at the University of Laval and undertook a postdoctoral fellowship jointly between the University of Laval and Duke University in North Carolina. He subsequently worked as a researcher for the Québec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and for the Société de Développement de l’Industrie Maricole du Québec before becoming the Canada Research Chair in Aquaculture at ISMER.

A specialist in applied ecophysiology, he developed a laboratory focused on aquaculture and biotechnological development. This satellite laboratory, operating as a “marine station,” is a major research facility that has enabled him to supervise 73 master’s and doctoral students, 13 postdoctoral researchers, and to produce 237 scientific articles.

His collaborative work with aquaculture companies and resource managers has been recognized with several awards, including the Université du Québec Excellence Award (Partnership category) in 2022, the UQAR Alcide C. Horth Distinction in 2020, and the Research Award of Excellence from the Aquaculture Association of Canada in 2017.
