Carlos R. ROJAS CHAVES

Carlos Rojas Chaves is an Industrial Chemist from Costa Rica with over 14 years of experience in laboratory management, quality assurance (ISO/IEC 17025), and agro-industrial systems, with a strong focus on the coffee sector. He currently leads the Chemical Laboratory at the Costa Rican Coffee Institute (ICAFE), where he oversees analytical services related to coffee quality, environmental monitoring, and food safety.

His work integrates applied research, regulatory compliance, and technical support across the coffee value chain, including soil and plant analysis, wastewater management, and sustainable production practices. He has also contributed to initiatives aimed at preventing food fraud in coffee through analytical verification, quality control systems, and traceability approaches.

Carlos has extensive experience collaborating with public institutions and technical committees, contributing to regulatory development and innovation in agricultural systems. He is particularly interested in strengthening international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and sustainable approaches to agricultural production, especially in the context of climate challenges, product integrity, and value chain resilience.
